Biography

Fort Frederick Market Fair - April, 2007

My strong interest in American History dates back to the mid 1950s when I - like so many other boys of that era - would don my coonskin cap and sit in front of a black-and-white TV to watch Fess Parker portray frontier heroes Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.

Living History is now a big part of my life, and I regularly attend local and regional events, including the Annual Market Fair at Fort Frederick State Park, MD.

My interest in bag making started in the early 1990s, and under the guidance and encouragement of my friend and mentor, Speedy Hogarth, I continue to hone my craft.

I was honored to have won the Judges’ Choice Awards in the Contemporary Bag Category at Dixon’s Gunmakers Fair in 2002 and 2003. I take great pride in creating unique, period-correct shooting bags and accouterments.

I am a member of The CLA, and The PATUXENTS – a group dedicated to the continuation of Living History circa 1750-1795.

To this day, I am still fascinated by stories of Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.

I wonder whatever became of my coonskin cap?

Remembering
George Poff: 1942-2007

I knew George for only 14 brief years, but he was an exceptional man and, from the first, an important presence in my life.

We shared an interest in history, hunting, fishing and much more. Our annual hunting trips to the UK, and the many hours spent at Living History events and Market Fairs were always great adventures. George was a man of limitless enthusiasm and lively intellectual curiosity. He brought the past - and the present - to life for everyone who was fortunate enough to know him, and he made every event richer and more interesting.
Along with countless others, I feel his loss deeply. I am grateful to have known him and I will always remember him. George was almost my brother and, in the truest sense, he was my friend.
